Helen is an experienced BACP Accredited Psychotherapist, Trauma Therapist, EMDR Practitioner and Specialist Fertility Counsellor with a career in mental health spanning over 15 years. She currently works in private practice, specialising in working with women. She is also a clinical supervisor and MPhil/PhD student at the University of Chester.
In 2018, Helen founded BME Voices Talk Mental Health, an organisation that created platforms for Black and Minority Ethnic mental health practitioners of all disciplines to share their good practice and research. The idea for the organisation came after continually seeing the lack of Black and Minority Ethnic representation at mental health conferences, and the need for a platform where practitioners of colour could acknowledge and share what they feel is important to them and the communities they serve. The platforms created included conferences, workshops and events, including an annual trauma conference.
This year 2021, Helen created the not-for-profit organisation Community Trauma Conference UK. This emerged from the previous successes with BME Voices Talk Mental Health and the annual trauma conference. The new vision is to create a bespoke conference platform for mental health practitioners, researchers and other professionals to share their best practice, research and diversity of thought with the wider mental health profession and beyond. This also includes the bringing together of a diverse range of voices, covering the most relevant, timely and important mental health concerns within Black, Asian and Minoritised communities.

"I enjoyed the conference as a black therapist and individual. Our communities are in need of these platforms to keep the issue of race and the "other" high on the agenda. The conference assisted my learning and validated my experience. Thank you"

"Thank you so much for what you are doing in bringing BME therapist/Therapeutic beings together. This has made me think about my position as a therapist, how I practice and how I'm reaching (or not) the people in need in our communities"

"Good conference, well organised and professional. Made things clinically relevant and some concrete things to take away as sometimes i find whilst i learn stuff I struggle to know how to apply what I learn in a clinical context - this conference helped with both so thank you"
